The polar night

The polar night is such a period of time when there is mo sunrise for certain area. This is a peculiar phenomenon for areas of polar circles. The shortest polar night lasts for 24 hours. It is the polar night common for area with latitude in 63 degree. And that is the shortest time when sun never rises. As for the longest polar night, it lasts for six months.

Can you imagine? People are deprived of the opportunity to see sun for a half of year. For a half of year people are immersed in the darkness. It is rather interesting and peculiar phenomenon but at the same time it is the dullest one. The polar night is a result of slope of earth towards the plane of the ecliptic. This action makes sun "invisible" for some period of time.

There is also a polarity for such phenomenon as polar night. There is also such phenomenon as polar day. It is a period of time when sun remains above the horizon line for 24 hours or even more. The shortest polar day lasts for 24 hours and it is peculiar for areas with their latitude equal to 66 degree. And the longest polar day lasts for six months.

As you can see, the length of polar night is the same with the length of the polar day. And the typical attitudes are also the same for those two phenomena. Though, the polar day (unlike the polar night) is a result of slope of plane of the earth equator towards the plane of the ecliptic. The polar night is the longest dark period and the polar day is the longest bright period.
